Have you seen tourists zipping around town in white electric-assist bicycles? You’ve likely seen a few at the Kahala Mall, or KCC Farmer’s Market. Sanyo’s eneloop bike has touched down in Hawaii! Starting this month, the bicycles will be available for rent in Waikiki.

The special thing about these bikes is that it features ‘Regenerative Charging’. What this means is that when you brake or go downhill, the friction generates energy that recharges the battery.
Sanyo first introduced the eneloop bike back in March of 2009. One year later it unveiled solar-powered bike share programs in the the city of Setagaya in Tokyo.
While we’re not quite as advanced here, you can still take one for a spin, and you don’t have to be a tourist. Just drop by 333 ROYAL HAWAIIAN AVENUE. HONOLULU HAWAII 96815 – (808)779-5178, $10 for 2 hours, $25 for the day.
